AIS:  Our Commitment to Academic Intervention Services

Academic intervention services are intended to supplement regular classroom instruction and directed towards those students who are at risk of not achieving state standards or who have scored below designated performance levels on State assessments.

For those grades where there is not a State assessment, multiple measures are utilized to identify students at risk (i.e. DIBELS testing, teacher observations, student work, and informal assessments).

The classroom teachers in collaboration with the AIS provider monitor students' progress to insure that students receive additional instruction when needed.  Instruction may be in the form of a classroom push-in where the AIS teacher assists students in the classroom or in the form of a classroom pull-out where individuals or small groups of students are given extra time for focused instruction in a specific area of need. During classroom pull-out the AIS program uses a variety of materials and resources including technology to meet the instructional needs of the students. Attention is given to the five components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.

The focus of AIS at NCCS is primarily reading and math although other subject areas are covered when needed. Reading instruction is used while teaching students in other content areas thus benefiting them by reviewing reading skills that should help in all subject areas.

Our commitment at NCCS is to assist students who struggle with learning and to improve their success in school by helping them to reach their full learning potential.

COMPUTER EDUCATION: A COMMITMENT TO OUR FUTURE

Northern Chautauqua Catholic School remains committed to “raising the bar” for the academic success of our students by providing two computer labs equipped with 25 computers and two interactive SMART and PROMETHEAN boards. This technology provides our students with the means to be academically competitive with students from other schools in the area while benefitting from the one on one attention only our class sizes can provide.

Computer Education is provided to ALL students in grades Pre K through Eight. Students learn basic keyboarding, digital photography, video making, Power-point presentation skills with exposure to graphic arts. Students experience safe web browsing techniques and improve their research and language skills by completing core subject area Webquests while in computer education. Core course teachers work cooperatively with the Computer Education teacher to provide and enhance the educational learning experiences of our students through the use of technology.
