HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL ANNOUNCES ENHANCED SCIENCE PROGRAM

In the spirit of continuous improvement, the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family is pleased to announce an enhanced, expanded emphasis on Science in its new program “Science across the Curriculum”, according to Principal Samuel Pellerito.   The program will include Pre-K through Grade 8, with an emphasis on Middle School students.   “The impetus evolves from a commitment not only to better challenge and inspire our students, but to make our students more competitive in the global job market,” states Principal Pellerito.  In our own community, the fields having employment needs are Health Care and Manufacturing.  Holy Family School is committed to better prepare students for more possibilities in our own job market, as well as in the world-wide economy.  The project based learning method will tap into the students’ natural creative ability and eagerness to learn.   The curriculum integration will also enhance Holy Family’s continuing commitment to teach science throughout the entire academic year.

Holy Family School is collaborating with Roger Tory Peterson Institute and the new program will also include the addition of special teaching and learning programs with the assistance of SUNY Fredonia.   The enhanced Science program will integrate both the physical and the life sciences and intends to increase learning across the entire curriculum.  Holy Family School will start a weekly after school program on October 5,2011. The program is developed in collaboration with Jamestown Community College for middle school students, which will include an introduction to JCC’s new state of art science facility.    Additionally, the school will focus on periodic programs of career exploration for the students presented by area experts including parents, friends, and colleagues.   The faculty took part in an inservice prior to school opening in the fall to update them on the enhanced Science program.
